H&M Will Recycle Your Clothes

In exchange for your old clothes, Swedish clothier H&M will give you a discount on a future purchase.

H&M is launching a global initiative to encourage shoppers to recycle the clothes they no longer wear instead of throwing them in the trash. The retailer has said that as much as 95% of the clothes people would throw away can be used again.

Beginning in February 2013, customers will be able to bring in used clothing from any brand and H&M will accept clothing in “any condition,” according to the LA  Times. In return for your used clothing, you’ll receive a voucher for a future purchase. So basically, feel good about recycling your clothing, come back to H&M to buy more clothes and use your voucher, and recycle more clothes.

H&M is partnering with a global recycling company, I:Collect, who will then handle the recycled clothes at a sorting plant in Germany. There, the clothing will be separated for re-use for more apparel or for other products such as cleaning rags, padding, and more.

The retailer has said that it’s long-term goal is to “reduce the environmental impact of garments throughout the lifecycle,” as stated in the Los Angeles Times.

Now might be a good time to begin cleaning out your closet to separate the clothes you love and wear from the clothes that you don’t really think you’d wear again.

Emerald Shines as Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year

Emerald has stolen the spotlight in 2013 as Pantone’s Color of the Year.

Every December, color authority Pantone chooses a color to become the upcoming year’s “Color of the Year.” Today, Pantone chose Emerald Green as the “Color of the Year” for 2013.

According to Pantone’s website, Emerald is “Lively. Radiant. Lush … A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”

The radiant color, Pantone 17-5641, has been all over the Spring 2013 runway and will undoubtedly be the hottest color for 2013.

If you don’t have some emerald in your closet already, it might just be time to go shopping and grab some great jewel-toned emerald pieces. Look for great dresses and shoes to keep yourself looking like a gem. It also wouldn’t hurt to add some actual emerald gems to your jewelry collection.

But don’t just stop at clothing. Home decor — my favorite — in emerald is stunning and adds a splash of color to your living place. Unlike last year’s color of the year (Tangerine Tango), Emerald Green is easier on the eyes and is perfect for all seasons so it would be absolutely okay to have emerald plates on your kitchen table all year.

Sephora & Pantone will be launching another color collection focused on emerald that is due to be out early spring 2013. Sign up at Sephora to stay notified on the limited-edition color collection and it’s release date.

I don’t know about you, but I’m most looking forward to emerald green nail polish. Hello, gems on my nails!

You can also find Pantone bedding, bath towels, and accessories in Emerald sold exclusively at JCPenny and online beginning February 1.

Target & Neiman Marcus Launch

Today, December 1, is not only the first of December (obviously) but is also the day of the Target and Neiman Marcus collab launch!
The much-anticipated collaboration called Holiday24, is an exclusive collection with 50 gorgeous gifts from fashion’s 24 top designers. This might just be one of the biggest designer-retail collabs and it definitely does not disappoint. With a gorgeous girl’s floral dress by Marchesa, a fun set of cookie cutters by Band of Outsiders, a women’s floral lace tank by Lela Rose (this one’s at the top of my list) and so many more great finds, I’m not overexaggerating when I say you have to check out the collection online now (at Target and Neiman Marcus) as well as in stores.

Surely, you’ll be able to find a great gift for everyone on your shopping list with just one stop at Target or Neiman Marcus for the Neiman Marcus collab. But beware, these gifts will undoubtedly go quickly. Neiman Marcus online is already sold out of many of the gifts so be quick!

For more information on the designers, who they are, and what items they have contributed to the collab, check out the Target & Neiman Marcus info page.

Personally, my wishlist is comprised of:

Happy shopping!

My Weekend: Her Campus College Fashion Week

Let me tell you about my fashion-filled weekend:

I attended Her Campus’ College Fashion Week in Santa Barbara this past Saturday. For those of you who don’t know (but you should know), Her Campus is an online community for women – specifically the collegiette. You’ll find articles on Love, Life, Career and Style by HerCampus.com as well as articles on Campus News, Blog, Photos, Events, Campus Cuties, and Campus Celebrities written by local contributors at over 200 college chapters in the U.S.

Check out the college chapter which I contribute to: Her Campus Cal Poly!

College Fashion Week began in Boston, Mass., and traveled across the country to Santa Barbara, Calif. to close off the four-city tour.

In a simple sentence: The event was amazing.
